Senior Living Facility – Preventative Maintenance Procedure

When choosing a type of Senior Living environment for your loved one it is important to take into account all aspects of the facility/community and how it is run and maintained. In our previous article, we shared some tips on what to look for when choosing an assisted senior living facility. While we touched upon things like cleanliness, and the environment provided we also thought it was important to mention how the facility/community handles preventative maintenance. Diving this deep into the facilities operations may seem as if we are bordering on the OCD side, the truth is preventative maintenance measures are actually very important!

Senior Facility Maintenance Response

Preventative maintenance includes things such as air conditioning and heater repair. Should these units go out during their intended months, will the facility respond in a timely matter? You don’t want there to be freezing temperatures inside during a Colorado winter or sweltering temperatures during scorching Arizona winter months, depending on the state that the facility resides in. Do they take immediate action and do they have dependable resident HVAC service they utilize? How well they take care of the facility and responsiveness to issues that occur are not only extremely important for the health of the residents but also their safety!

Other forms of preventative maintenance include plumbing, grounds keeping, and handyman related issues. How fast the response times are to these issues & how they are handled make all the difference. Not to mention preventative maintenance is a part of the efficient upkeep of any property or facility. Ensuring that the indoor temperatures are maintained and regulated as well as vents, air ducts, and filters are cleaned regularly is extremely important for the overall safety of all the residents.

Another thing you might want to take into account and gain further information on is their evacuation and movement plans should an emergency situation arise. Do you feel comfortable and confident in their plan of attack while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of your loved one? Looking into every aspect of any Senior Living Facility whether it be an assisted facility or more of a senior living community is very important. Never feel bad or apologize for asking too many questions. After all, you are entrusting the life and health of your loved one to other people.
